あてられる【当てられる】

1 〔害を受ける〕 be affected by [suffer from] 《the summer heat》.

●あいつの毒気に当てられて今日は元気が出ない. I feel drained of any energy today; just being near that obnoxious guy affects one this way.

2 〔のろけなどに悩まされる〕 be made (to feel) uncomfortable; be embarrassed.

●新婚の二人に当てられた. The way those newlyweds talked and behaved was quite embarrassing. | I didn't know where to put myself when those newlyweds behaved as they did.
